Help us to share Sioux City’s story

Volunteer

Over 100 volunteers give approximately 6,000 hours annually.

Do you enjoy Siouxland history? Like to work with the public? We need your help to interpret the history of the Sioux City region to our visitors.

The Sioux City Public Museum and its sites are able to provide a higher level of service to the community thanks to the commitment of an outstanding group of volunteers.

Volunteer Roles

  • Greeters will assist at the Front Desk/Museum Store and are an integral part of the visitors' overall experience. The front desk greeter is the first contact visitors have when entering the museum. Volunteers are needed during our open hours Tuesdays through Sundays.

  • Would you like to learn about Siouxland history and share that knowledge with others? Gallery Guides must enjoy working with the public and will be responsible for leading our school and adult groups through the museum.

  • Help set up, serve refreshments, greet visitors and assist staff members at special events throughout the year.

  • Do you like to make crafts, play games and introduce children to the world of history and culture? We need your help with our scout and youth programming.

  • A variety of projects are available in our archives. We need help organizing and updating our collections of photographs, manuscripts, clippings, books, oral histories and more. Organizational skills are helpful in this job.

  • We could use your help researching and conducting oral history interviews. Knowledge of local history and organizational skills are helpful in this position.

  • Greet the traveling public from around the country and even around the world! Other duties include phone work and gift shop sales. No prior experience is necessary, but a general knowledge of Sioux City, its history and points of interest are helpful. Sign up on a regular weekly basis or as a substitute. Contact the Sgt. Floyd staff (712) 279-0198 for more information.

  • Interested in assisting with rentals and special events at the beautiful Mansion? Volunteers are needed to greet visitors, oversee events, and maintain the historic home. Short, monthly meetings are held to discuss feature events and projects.

To join our team, sign up online below or download and return the Volunteer Form to the museum.
